How it works
From recordings you can't tell apart to a library you can search by sound.
Four calm steps. The first analysis is a one-time pass that runs in the background — after that, finding is instant. Riffle doesn't change how you record; it sits next to your existing files and gives you a way back to any of them.
Install Riffle
Download the signed installer for macOS and Windows and open the app — the installers are signed (and notarized on macOS) so they open without security warnings. There's no account to create inside the app.
- macOS 11 (Big Sur) or later · Windows 10 or later (64-bit)
- No in-app account or login
- First run downloads the analysis models once (about 1–3 GB)
Point Riffle at your recordings
Add watch folders — your synced phone voice memos, a DAW bounce folder, a Dropbox — and Riffle picks up what's there plus anything new you add later. Prefer a one-time pass? Drag files or folders straight in. It reads common audio formats and skips anything it can't read without stopping.
- Watch folders for recordings you keep adding to
- Drag-and-drop for a one-time import
- Quick-Capture to record new ideas right inside Riffle
It analyzes — on your device
The first time Riffle sees your recordings it runs an analysis pass on your own machine: key, tempo, duration, loudness, the melody's shape, a sound profile, and an auto-title and tags. A large library can take a while on the first pass — but it runs in the background, newest clips first, and the app stays usable. You can pause it anytime. Nothing is uploaded.
- One-time pass; runs in the background, newest first
- The app stays responsive — browse and play while it works
- Clips become searchable as soon as each one finishes
- All on-device — nothing leaves your machine
Find any idea by sound
Now your whole Library is searchable by how it sounds. Hum or play a melody and Riffle returns the best candidates with confidence and instant preview. Type a description to find clips by their character. Hold one clip and ask for more like this. When you find the take, drag it straight into your DAW or export it to WAV.
- Find by Melody — hum or play it
- Find by Description — type the character you want
- More like this — from any clip you're holding
- Drag into your DAW, or export to WAV

Under the hood
Quietly technical, plainly private.
Riffle detects pitch and musical key, follows the melody's contour so it can match the same tune in any key or tempo, and builds a sound profile of each clip for description and similarity search. All of it runs on your device.
- Melody matching is key-invariant and tempo-tolerant.
- Description and similarity search work on a local sound profile of each clip.
- Network is used only for license checks and the first-time model download.
- Works fully offline after setup.
